First Science Saturday

Our first Science Saturday will be held tomorrow, September 22, 2012,  at the Marshall-Lyon County Library (201 C Street in Marshall, MN) from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Science Saturday is for children ages 5 to 10 and an adult partner.  Our theme for tomorrow is “Earth and Sun Together.”  For this program, our volunteers choose books and materials and plan fun hands-on activities  that are developmentally appropriate.  This week, young scientists will discuss the astronomical relationship between the earth and sun and read the book Starry Messenger by Peter Sís.  This award-winning book tells the story of Galileo.  We will talk about how the sun and earth’s relationship creates the autumnal equinox and read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.  Children and their adults will receive some ideas for activities they can do at home to continue the learning.
