Thank you to United Way of Southwest Minnesota

Literacy Volunteers of Southwest Minnesota sends a big thank you to United Way of Southwest Minnesota for awarding us a Special Community Projects Grant.  The funds will support a pilot project for adult literacy outreach to communities in Lyon (excluding Marshall), Lincoln and portions of Murray, Yellow Medicine, and Redwood Counties.  Our Community Outreach Coordinator, volunteers, and community partners will recruit and train volunteer tutors and literacy advocates and coordinate with public libraries to offer support for adults with literacy goals, such as pursuing a GED, improving their English language skills, or learning basic technology skills.  We plan to offer at least 4 tutor trainings in the region between now and May of 2014, in addition to tutor trainings we will be offering in Marshall and in Redwood Falls.
