When we meet with people at volunteer orientations, they are often are worried about whether they can learn to tutor someone. The short answer is “Yes.” The long answer is “Yes, but watch out, because you might find yourself liking what you do – a lot.” Many of our tutors have been with us for 2 or more years , way more than we asked of them when they signed up. While tutors are certainly giving their time to help our learners reach their literacy goals, they find themselves on the receiving end as well. Our learners give back to their tutors as well as relationships are developed, successes are celebrated, and challenges are shared.
We have 3 upcoming opportunities to learn more about becoming a volunteer:
Monday, 18 January 2016 6:30-7:15 p.m., SMSU, Charter Hall 101 (hot chocolate, tea, and coffee will be served!)
Wednesday, 20 January 2016 10:30-11:15 a.m. & Thursday, 21 January 2016 5:30-6:15 p.m., Marshall-Lyon County Library, 201 C Street, Marshall, MN
Come learn about how your time supports developing literacy and lifelong learning skills in individuals, which in turn will make our community even better!
